CAF Confederation Report: Elgeco Plus v Kaizer Chiefs 22 December 2018

CAF Confederation Cup

Result: Elgeco Plus 0-3 Kaizer Chiefs (0-6 agg.)

Date: 22 December 2018

Venue: Stade Municipal de Mahamasina

Kaizer Chiefs advanced to the next round of the Confederations Cup  after beating Elgeco Plus 3-0 away in Antananaviro in the second-leg on Saturday afternoon.   Amakhosi came into the game holding a 3-0 advantage from the first-leg, while Itumeleng Khune and Zuma returned to the line-up.
Elgeco were very physical in the first ten minutes of the encounter with a couple tackles on the likes of Dumisani Zuma and Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya.   Ernst Middendorp's charges were finding it difficult to penetrate the hosts in the middle of the park towards midway through the half, as they were hardly threatening in the last third.   Zuma was a particular target for the rouch challenges in the remainder of the half, but neither side could break the deadlock in the first hallf.   The first ten minutes of the second stanza did not provide a lot of action, but Amakhosi were an improved side towards the hour-mark as Willard Katsande came close to breaking the deadlock for the visitors with a strike from range that sailed over the bar.   Hendrick Ekstein finally found the breakthrough for Middendorp's troops 19 minutes before time after great play from Bernard Parker who had just came on as a substitute.   Parker almost made it 2-0 to Amakhosi 12 minutes before time with a strike from inside the box that sailed narrowly wide after he was setup by Ntiya-Ntiya from the left wing.   Ryan Moon, who has been out with a long term injury, was given a run for the Glamour Boys in the last ten minutes, replacing Leonardo Castro.   Moon made an immediate impact as he doubled the lead for the Glamour Boys three minutes after coming on.   Ekstein was buzzing as he made it 3-0 for the visitors four minutes before time and completed his brace in the process.   Chiefs will march into the final round of qualifying of the Conedration Cup in high confidence following a convincing run in the competition so far.
