Date: 15 May 2015
Venue: Modibo Keita Stadium
Goals from Thamsanqa Gabuza and Oupa Manyisa handed Orlando Pirates a 2-0 win over AS Kaloum in their CAF Confederation Cup first leg tie on Friday evening.
The Buccaneers opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute when Thabo Matlaba played in Lehlohonolo Majoro, who teed up Thamsanqa Gabuza for the simple tap-in.
The home side sprung into life after going a goal down and looked to hit back straight away, but Siyabonga Sangweni and Issa Sarr defended well to deny them an equaliser.
Just after fifteen minutes, Majoro ran onto a long pass from goalkeeper Benson Mhlongo, but Majoro's final effort at goal just missed the target.
The Buccaneers defence managed to keep Kaloum at bay for the remainder of the half, and just before the break, Brighton Mhlongo was also called upon to deny the home side a goal.
Pirates went in search of a second goal and were nearly rewarded shortly after the halftime break when Oupa Manyisa picked out Gabuza, but the striker fired wide of the mark.
Kaloum continued to see more of the ball as they looked for an equaliser, however they could not bypass a resolute Pirates defence.
Eric Tinkler's side went close to getting a second away goal after the hour-mark but Manyisa's free-kick sailed just wide of the target.
Pirates eventually doubled their lead in the 73rd minute, courtesy of a volley from Manyisa, for the all important second away goal.
The visitors managed to see out the remaining stages and kept a clean sheet, although they could have added a third but Kermit Erasmus failed to beat the Kaloum goalkeeper in an one-on-one situation in the closing stages.
