CAF Champions League Report: Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 Enyimba 29 June 2016

CAF Champions League Report: Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 Enyimba 29 June 2016

CAF Champions League   Result: Sundowns 2-1 Enyimba   Date: 29 June 2016   Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium   Mamelodi Sundowns earned the first three points of their CAF Champions League campaign with a 2-1 win over Enyimba on Wednesday.   The Brazilians conjured up the first real opportunity in the 13th minute when Tebogo Langerman produced a curling free kick from the left that picked out Thabo Nthethe, but the centre-back's header was blocked.   Moments later it was Enyimba who were on the attack. Onuigbo made his presence felt as he forced Wayne Sandilands into a strong save. The ball came back to the visitors, but Onuigbo couldn't direct his header on target.   Pitso Mosimane's charges enjoyed some good spells in the Enyimba third of the pitch towards the end of the half, and finally found their opener in the 42nd minute as Leonardo Castro bundled home a loose ball following a cross from Keagan Dolly.
After a slow start to the second half, Enyimba got themselves back on level terms in the 59th minute when a poor punch from Sandilands saw the ball fall for Oluwadamilare Ojo, who hammered home the volley.   The Brazilians responded with great intent and came close when the Enyimba goalkeeper made a top save to keep out Castro's header in the 67th minute.   Wayne Arendse then went close as he headed wide from Dolly's free kick before Khama Billiat drilled a shot just past the post.   The hosts were rewarded for their determination in the 78th minute as they netted the winner when a ball floated in from the left fell kindly for Arendse who powered home the finish despite the shotstopper getting a big hand on it.
Here's how they lined up:   Sundowns: Sandilands, Mbekile, Nthethe, Arendse, Langerman, Mabunda, Kekana, T Zwane, Dolly, Billiat, Castro   Enyimba: Ocheje, Anyanwu, Udoji, Oahimijie, Akas, Nzube, Ojo, Ibenegbu, Onuigbo, Etor, Pyagbara
