Mamelodi Sundowns

CAF Champions League   Result: ES Setif 0-2 Sundowns   Date: 18 June 2016   Venue: Stade 8 Mai 1945    Mamelodi Sundowns made the ideal start to their CAF Champions League group stage with a 2-0 win over ES Setif on Saturday night.   The hosts started the game strongly and conjured a decent chance in the fourth minute as they attacked through the left channel, but Saadi's shot was wide of the near post.   There weren't many chances thereafter for either side as they tried to settle into the game by stroking the ball around in midfield.   In the 33rd minute the deadlock was broken in fine style as Tiyani Mabunda found the back of the net. He made room for a shot outside the Setif box and picked out the top corner of the goal with a pin-point strike.   Setif almost responded immediately as they got a shot on target moments after the restart, but Wayne Sandilands made the save.   Khama Billiat had a half-chance when Keagan Dolly found him with a long ball over the top, but he sent his volley over the top.
Setif piled the pressure on the Brazilians after the interval with some dangerous set-pieces in the 'Downs third, but it was the visitors who scored again.   In the 63rd minute the lead was doubled as some terrific individual skill from Billiat resulted in a second goal. The Zimbabwean sliced through the defence before placing a composed finish beyond the goalkeeper.   The hosts became more frustrated as the game wore on and resorted to some cynical tackling but the Sundowns players didn't find any protection from the referee and had to soldier on to secure a hard-fought victory.
The game came to an unsavoury end as unruly Setif supporters vented their frustration by breaking through some of the security fences, bringing a temporary hault to the clash before the visitors could see out the last few minutes and celebrate their win.
Here's how Sundowns lined up:  Sandilands, Mbekile, Nthethe, Arendse, S. Zwane, Mabunda (Modise 83'), Kekana, T. Zwane, Dolly, Billiat, Castro (Ngele 70')
