Bidvest Wits Could Face Al Ahly Next Year

Al Ahly
Bidvest Wits have been drawn against Saint-Louisienne, of Reunion, in the preliminary stages of the CAF Champions League, but the first round will be much tougher. Read: Sundowns Off To Uganda Or Angola The Clever Boys are in this year's competition by virtue of finishing second in last year's Absa Premiership behind Mamelodi Sundowns, and will be hoping to try and at least secure themselves a place in the group stages of the competition. New rules from CAF mean that there will now be less qualifiers and more groups, with 16 teams making it into the group stages rather than the eight that have made it in the past. The 16-time Reunion Premier League champions are playing in the CAFCL for the first time since 2003, and Gavin Hunt will be hoping to have a successful trip to the island when they play on the weekend of February 10. Should Wits make it past Saint-Louisienne though, they will come up against eight-time CCL winners, Al Ahly, in the first round of the competition as they battle for a spot in the groups. The Egyptian giants finished third in their group in last year's competition and will be eager to make a better effort at securing their ninth title this time around. Wits are playing in the CCL for the first time this season, but were knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup in the first round against Azam of Tanzania this year. The clash with Al Ahly - who beat Orlando Pirates in the 2013 final - will take place on the weekend of March 10th, and Wits will be hoping to be there to take on the most successful team in CCL history.
