Vera Pauw Is Up For A Top FIFA Award

Former Banyana Banyana head coach, Vera Pauw, is one of 10 coaches nominated for the Best FIFA Women's Coach 2016 award. Read: Banyana Get The Better Of Egypt Having taken Banyana to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and, last month, helped them reach their highest ever position on the FIFA rankings. Now, with the Dutch coach having returned to Europe to spend time with her family, she has been given a parting gift of sorts by being recognised as one of the top 10 female coaches in the world, while Desiree Ellis has taken over at Banyana until a replacement is found. Pauw tweeted about her nomination, saying, "Indeed the nominations is amazing for recognition of Banyana in the world of women's football!" She also stated that 'the nomination is an award in itself. The 10 nominated coaches will be whittled down to just three at the start of next month, with Pauw facing stiff competition from the likes of German Olympic-winning coach, Silvia Neid.
