Result: Japan 6-0 Bantwana

Date: 16 November 2018

Venue: Estadio Domingo Burgueño Migue

Bantwana suffered their first defeat at the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup after losing 6-0 to Japan at the Estadio Domingo Burgueno Migue.

The South Africans claimed their first-ever point at an U17 World Cup after drawing 0-0 with Mexico on Tuesday evening.

However, Bantwana got off to a poor start as Japan broke the deadlock after just four minutes thanks to a strike from Haruka Osawa.

The Japanese took control from then on and managed to carve out at opening at goal after 18 minutes but Bantwana goalkeeper Kay-Dee Windvogel was on hand to make the save.

Japan were not to be denied in five minutes later as Osawa completed her brace to double her side's advantage.

The Asian outfit were then awarded a penalty in the 37th minute after a foul from Jessica Wade. Tanaka Tomoko stepped up and converted the spot-kick, 3-0.

There was enough time for Japan to bag a fourth goal before the break as captain Sara Ito fired past Windvogel after being afforded space to shoot.

The rout continued in the second half when Japan were awarded another penalty. Ito took responsibility this time and slotted past Windvogel.

South Africa opted for a change after the hour-mark as Siphumelele made way for Serenity Warner.

Simphiwe Dludlu's troops managed to carve out a couple chances after 79 minutes, with Chelsea Daniels going closest with a strike that sailed over the bar in the box.

Japan rounded off the scoring in the first minute of second-half stoppage time, with Yamato finding the back of the net to make it 6-0.
