There Could Be A Big European Move On The Cards For A Banyana Superstar

After a 2019 that included a World Cup debut, a World Cup goal, and almost a top continental gong, 2020 could promise more excitement for one of South Africa's top talents.

Thembi Kgatlana wrote her name into the history books last year as she scored a beauty against Spain for Banyana Banyana as Mzansi got their first-ever goal at FIFA Women's World Cup, and her performances at the tournament – as well as at club level for Beijing BG Phoenix – have seen her create quite a name for herself.

Now, not too long after narrowly missing out on the CAF African Women's Footballer of the Year award to Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala, the player's agent says that she's got 'some decisions to make'.

Christopher Atkins, of RWMG Sports, has revealed that there is now some serious interest in Kgatlana following an impressive 2019, and it may be that a move is on the cards for the former Houston Dash speedster sooner rather than later.

Speaking to the Siya crew, Atkins said, "Thembi has some decisions to make. While she has been happy in China, her form and performances at the World Cup in particular have attracted some serious interest from Europe.

"There are offers on the table both in Europe and China. It is now up to her but all will be known shortly."

The 23-year-old has also been praised for her work by her agent, with the attacker spending time with Cape Town City recently in order to make sure she stayed in tip-top shape, with Atkins adding, "There are few harder-working players. Her time spent with Cape Town City this off-season was all organised herself. She deserves all these opportunities and it may also be the right time for her to take another step forward."

In Europe, it is thought that big clubs in both Portugal and Spain are very keen to snap up the Banyana superstar if the opportunity arises, and January could turn out to be an exciting month for one of South Africa's brightest sporting talents.

Kgatlana's agent, Atkins, recently helped secure another Banyana star, Linda Motlhalo, a move to Swedish outfit, Djurgarden, while Jermaine Seoposenwe has been linked with a switch to the top-flight of Spanish football.
