Banyana Banyana star Thembi Kgatlana has left the team's camp in Morocco after she was recently ruled out for the rest of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, the Siya crew has learnt.
Kgatlana, who recently signed for US side Racing Louisville after from Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid, sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon in the side's final group C match against Botswana and was subsequently ruled out of the competition.
Banyana progressed to the quarterfinals of the WAFCON by finishing top of the group on nine points, with Kgatlana playing a big role in attack. She had to watch on from the sidelines as Banyana edged Tunisia 1-0 in the quarterfinal clash on Thursday evening.
By beating Tunisia, Banyana qualified for the 2023 Women's FIFA World Cup, with Kgatlana expected to be back to take on the best teams in the world.
Kgatlana, however, has since left Morocco. Banyana are due to face Southern African rivals Zambia in the semi-finals as they look to reach the final of the competition, where they would face the possibility of playing Nigeria again after beating the West Africans 2-1 in the opening group match last week.
In a Twitter post on Thursday, Kgatlana wrote: "My heart is in a good place. I will always be with you guys."
