"It was a really interesting draw, I really didn't want to see us compete in Group A," Banyana Banyana captain, Janine van Wyk said after the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup draw.
The South African national women's team will be competing in Group B, alongside Germany, Spain, and China in the FIFA Women's World Cup that is set to take place in France next year.
Speaking to the South African Football Association's official website, van Wyk revealed her relief to have avoided competing in the group which occupies the hosts, France.

"… Against the hosts, I always think that it is the most difficult game we will ever play, obviously, the atmosphere would have been amazing, playing in such big stadiums against the hosts, it is always difficult to get three points especially against such a good team but also the hosts," Van Wyk said.
"I am relieved that we're not in Group A, but I am also relieved with the group we are in, looking at all the other groups, it is always difficult to play European teams who are taller and stronger than us.
"In our group, we have Germany, former champions, also a couple of tall players, technically very good, which is going to be a tough one. China, we faced in (the) Rio Olympics and we had a really narrow loss against them.
"Spain, never faced them, don't really know much but they are a very technical (and) good team.
"But as Banyana Banyana, we have so much experience behind us with the players that we have and we do well against organized teams."
"I am happy and very excited, it is so amazing to see South Africa part of the 2019 FIFA World Cup," she added.
