International Friendly Report: New Zealand - Banyana Banyana 28 July 2016

Refoile Jane

Banyana Banyana suffered a 4-1 defeat to New Zealand in an international friendly, as they continue preparations for the Olympic Games.

Bambanani Mbane made her first start for Banyana in place of Noko Matlou, while Mamello Makhabane was also handed a starting berth.

It was New Zealand who broke the deadlock after 20 minutes, courtesy of a strike from Hannah Wilkinson.

Tony Readings's side doubled their lead in the 36th minute when Bayana goalkeeper, Roxanne Barker's clearance landed at the feet of a New Zealand attacker, who made no mistake from close range, 2-0.

Banyana coach, Vera Pauw opted for a double change at the start of the second half and introduced Shiwe Nogwanya and Matlou for Leandra Smeda and Bambanani Mbane.

New Zealand extended their advantage on the hour mark, before Jermaine Seoposenwe reduced the deficit in the 65th minute to make it 3-1.

The New Zealanders had the final say on the night as they netted a fourth goal in the 88th minute to round off a dominant performance.

Banyana will now shift their attention to their opening Olympic clash against Sweden on Wednesday, 3 August.
