Banyana Duo Win Big At CAF Awards

Desiree Ellis

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis was named the CAF Women's Coach of the Year for 2018, while Thembi Kgatlana also walked away with two awards.

Banyana enjoyed an impressive 2018 after they reached the Africa Women's Cup of Nations final, which secured them a ticket to the 2019 Women's World Cup.

Ellis beat out competition from Nigeria's Thomas Dennerby and Cameroon's Joseph Brian Ndoko for the accolade.

Kgatlana also scooped up two awards on the night as her strike against Nigeria at the AWCON won CAF goal of the Year, while she was also named Women's Player of the Year.

South Africa, however, missed out on the National Team of the Year award, losing out to Nigeria, who they lost to in the AWCON final.
