Africa Women's Cup Of Nations
Result: Banyana Banyana 1-1 Zambia
Date: 24 November 2018
Venue: Accra Sports Stadium
Banyana Banyana advanced to the semi-finals of the Total Africa Women's Cup of Nations as Group B winners after playing to a 1-1 draw against Zambia on Saturday evening at Accra Sports Stadium.
Thembi Kgatlana opened the scoring for Banyana in the ninth minute with a thunderbolt volley from just outside the box box, 1-0.
It did not take long for Zambia to find the equaliser as a minute later, with Rachel Kundananji making it 1-1.
Desiree Ellis' charges looked rattled after 20 minutes and lacked the finesse they played with in the first two games of the tournament.
The She-Polopolo were very physical in their challenges, making it difficult for South Africa to play their normal passing game.
Refiloe Jane had an opportunity to restore the lead for Ellis' charges two minutes before the break after a good move at the back post, but she fired her strike wide.
The first stanza ended one apiece as a result.
After quiet opening from Banyana, She-polopolo had the upper hand after the hour-mark but they were unable to carve out any real openings.
Kgatlana should have restored the lead for Ellis' charges in the 65th minute after rounding the Zambia goalkeeper but she struck agonisingly wide.
Banyana were creating good chances on counter-attacks, but they were unfortunate not to convert as they went in search of the winning goal.
However, Ellis' charges were unable to get another goal and had settle for a point, although the point sees them top the group.
Banyana will now face Mali in the semi-finals this coming week.
