The Black Stars cemented top spot on Thursday evening with a 2-0 victory over Sudan, sending Charles Akonnor's charges six points clear at the top of the group.
The gap between Ghana and South Africa was reduced back to three points on Friday when Molefi Ntseki's men claimed a 2-0 success over São Tomé and Príncipe.
Heading into the round four of the qualifiers, Ghana sit top of the group followed by Bafana, Sudan with three points and a winless São Tomé.
Luckily for Bafana, they will remain in the country for the return fixture against Sao Tome after an agreement was reached due to the coronavirus pandemic while Ghana travel to Sudan on Tuesday.
However, Ghana will fancy themselves to get something at Sudan, who have only won one of their last five Afcon qualifiers on home soil.
