Has Broos Crossed The Line With Tebza, Mudau Approach?

Has Broos Crossed The Line With Tebza, Mudau Approach?

After Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos and Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi had a war of words in the media, a former PSL coach has weighed in on the matter.

Broos seemed to threaten Mngqithi that he would have no choice but not to select Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau in the national team, if they continue not to be played at the Brazilians, after they were dropped for a number of matches at their club.

The former Golden Arrows tactician did not take kind to the Belgian's words and responded by saying: "He [Broos] must manage his house and allow me to manage my house because nobody tells him who to play in his team and I cannot be expected to be told by another coach who to play in my team."

Even though Mngqithi later said he would request a meeting with Broos to avoid a similar situation of going at each in the media, former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates coach Muhsin Ertugral believes the 72-year-old was in the wrong.

"There was a debate a couple of weeks where he spoke about Sundowns players and the coach of Sundowns; and the coach of Sundowns answered," Ertugral reflected on SoccerBeat YouTube Channel.

"That should be handled behind closed doors. I know [during] my time we also had those issues, sometimes you say things in emotions and you don't mean it actually.

"Broos has a little to play around, he depends on clubs, he has two, three days, sometimes a week to prepare a team. So he depends on clubs and there are certain players in his mind he wants to use but they are not playing. These are elements he's worried about but it shouldn't be public," the Turkish coach said.

It remains to be seen if Broos would be open to a meeting with Mngqithi, after the KwaZulu-Natal native mentor criticized the national team's handling of Themba Zwane, after he returned to Sundowns with an Achilles heel injury, that will keep him out at least for between four and six months at the worst.
