2020 African Nations Championship Qualifier

Teams: Lesotho v South Africa

Date: 28 July 2019

Venue: Setsoto Stadium

Bafana Bafana begin their journey to qualify for the 2020 African Nations Championship when they take on Lesotho in a second round, first-leg qualifier match in Maseru on Sunday afternoon.   The match is set to start at 14h00.   The South African Football Association has handed the coaching reigns to Under-23 national team coach David Notoane with the intention of using the CHAN qualifiers as preparations for the final round of the U-23 Africa Cup Of Nations qualifiers.   Notoane, after overseeing the Bafana side with the bulk of the U-23 squad in the recently completed COSAFA Cup, will be aiming to fine-tune his charges ahead of the important final round qualifier match against Zimbabwe in September - but also having the responsibility of qualifying Bafana to the CHAN tournament in Ethiopia next year.   Under Notoane's guidance, the young Bafana outfit won the Plate section of the COSAFA Cup, beating Malawi 5-4 on penalties after a goalless stalemate in early June in Durban.   Lesotho were impressive in the recently completed COSAFA Cup, as they finished fourth in the tournament, losing out to Zimbabwe 5-4 on penalties in the third/fourth play-off match after a thrilling 2-2 stalemate on 7 June.   The winner between Lesotho and South Africa over two legs will progress to the third and final round of the qualifiers, with first and second-leg clashes set to take place in the last week of September.

Bafana XI: Bongani Mpandle, Katlego Mohamme, Thabo Moloi, Athenkosi Dlala, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Sibusiso Kumalo, Zama Rambuwane, Siboniso Conco, Shadrack Kobedi, Tercious Malepe (C), Sandile Mthethwa.

Subs: Andile Mbanjwa (GK), Sydney Mobbie, Livuyo Phewa, Bongokuhle Hlongwane, Siphesihle Mkhize, Jerry Msane, Onyedikachi Ononoghu.
