Broos: Bafana Door Still Open For Foster

Broos: Bafana Door Still Open For Foster

With much uncertainty around the international future of Lyle Foster, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has extended an olive branch to the Burnley forward.

Having seemingly overcome his challenges with his mental health, Broos has left the door wide open for Foster to return to the national team setup.

The 23-year-old missed out on Bafana Bafana's African Cup Of Nations exploits in January after opting to withdraw from the squad, but continued playing for Vincent Kompany's side - a decision that split opinion between fans.

Foster also struggled with injury, which saw him undergo surgery for a problem that has been niggling him for the last few months.

Now, Foster is back in regular action for Burnley, which has raised questions about his possible return for Bafana in the near future.

"First of all, Foster. So I saw that he was playing, I think 10 minutes on Saturday in the game. So that means that his injury problems are over," Broos told the media via Zoom from his Algerian base.

"I will try to have contact in the next days or weeks with [Vincent] Kompany and maybe I can go when I'm in Belgium, I can go and see a game of Burnley and talk to Foster and talk to Kompany and see what we can expect in the future from him, certainly looking at the games in June," he continued.

Bafana Bafana will play two FIFA Series international friendlies against Andorra and Algeria on 21 and 26 March respectively.
