
Bafana Bafana Have Climbed In The Latest FIFA Rankings

Bafana Bafana's two wins at the Africa Cup of Nations secured a move up the FIFA rankings this month, with the South African national team now at their highest place since 2017. Stuart Baxter's side were knocked out in the quarter-finals of AFCON 2019 after a late goal by Nigeria saw the Super Eagles progress to the semifinals, but victories over Namibia and Egypt – both 1-0 – has seen them climb up to 70th position in the global rankings. Bafana also moved up one place in Africa as they climbed to 13th, and find themselves inside the top 70 in the world for the first time in over a year, and in their highest position on the continent in the same time frame. FIFA explained that the next rankings will be released in September, with South Africa having a handful of Africa Nations Championship qualifiers to play in an attempt to help their climb up the rankings a little bit more.
