Bafana Bafana have qualified for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after defeating Malawi 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Molefi Ntseki's charges came into the contest trailing the Malawians after losing 1-0 in the first leg last weekend.
Sundowns goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse started in goal, while Siyanda Msani, Yandisa Mfolozi, Ndumulelo Maphangule and Neo Maema were brought into the starting line-up following the first leg loss.
South Africa got the early goal in the first half, with Victor Letsoalo finding the back of the net on 11 minutes with a powerful left-footed volley to make it 1-1 on aggregate.
The home side were able to take the slender into the halftime break despite enjoying more of the possession in the opening 45 minutes.
Bafana came out of the second half firing and went close to adding a second at the midway period, but Letsoalo saw his header saved by the Malawian goalkeeper after some good work by Sebelebele.
With time running out and extra-time looming, Bafana got the all important winning goal with three minutes left on the clock as captain Maema found the back of the net after pouncing on a loose ball in the box.
As a result, Bafana will return to the CHAN tournament for the first time in 12 years.
