Casillas, who was considered the World's best goalkeeper, and duly named in the FIFPro World XI, for six years between 2007 and 2012, has endured a bad run of form ever since he was dropped from Real Madrid's first team in 2013.
However, in recent months, his form has improved and he has now saved two consecutive penalties against Almeria and Cruz Azul. This has prompted his former teammate, Zidane, to name Casillas in his 'dream team', ahead of the popular choice, Manuel Neuer.
"Iker's right up there again", explained Zidane.
Neuer is in the final three of this year's Balon D'Or vote after putting on several match winning displays over the year, but was not named in Zidane's team.
Also in Zidane's team were Real Madrid stars Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Toni Kroos, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
