Stuart Baxter Makes Kaizer Chiefs Penalty Admission

After substitute Lebogang Manyama missed from the penalty spot in the DStv Premiership clash against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus, Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has made a surprise declaration on the spot kick situation at Naturena.

Manyama came off the bench in the second half and took on the responsibility of taking a penalty after Rivaldo Coetzee was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

At the time, Chiefs were 2-0 down and had an opportunity to reduce the deficit in the final 20 minutes of the match, but Manyama's powerful effort struck the crossbar as Amakhosi went onto to succumb to their first defeat of the season in the league.

Despite having little time on the field, Manyama was confident to step up ahead of the other players who had been on the pitch, such as Keagan Dolly, Khama Billiat, Samir Nurkovic and Daniel Cardoso, who has taken spot kicks for the Soweto giants on a number of occasions in the past, though he has recently struggled from 12-yards out.

Asked if there is a number one penalty taker at Chiefs, Baxter said: "The answer to that is no. We have four or five penalty takers and when they are on the field and they say they don't want to take it, I've got little control over on where the responsibility goes. I think you've to listen to the players. The one who has confidence to take it, should take it.

"If it was me and I was on the field as one of the players, I would have pushed Lebo away because that's his first game back from injury. I don't think it's fair to give him that responsibility, but Lebo is a character."
