Spanish La Liga

Result: Celta Vigo 0-1 Barcelona

Date: 05 April 2015

Venue: Estadio Balaidos

Jeremy Mathieu struck in the 73rd minute to hand Barcelona a 1-0 win over Celta Vigo at Estadio Balaidos on Sunday night.

Celta Vigo nearly broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, when Joaquin Larrivey fired an effort towards goal, but Claudio Bravo was on hand to pull off a fine save.

At the other end, Celta Vigo goalkeeper Sergio Álvarez was called into action, as he got down well to keep out Lionel Messi's effort from the edge of the area.

The home side should have went ahead just before the halftime break but Larrivey blazed an effort wide from inside the area.

Barcelona then went close 10 minutes after the halftime break, as Luis Suarez picked out Messi at the near post, but the Argentine placed his effort wide of the target.

The visitors eventually broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute, as Jeremy Mathieu headed home Xavi's free-kick at the back post. His second goal in as many games.

The home side were then reduced to 10 men in the 88th minute when Fabian Orellana was shown a straight red for throwing grass toward the face of Sergio Busquets.

Messi should have added a second for Barcelona in the 90th minute when he was played through on goal, but the Argentine's attempted lob sailed over the crossbar from 12-yards out.

Nonetheless, Luis Enrique's side held on for the victory and restored their four-point lead at top of the table.
