Spanish La Liga Report: Atletico Madrid 3-0 Deportivo La Coruna 12 March 2016

Spanish La Liga

Result:  Atletico Madrid 3-0 Deportivo La Coruna

Date:  12 March 2016

Venue:  Vicente Calderon

Goals from Saul Niguez, Antoine Griezmann and Angel Correa earned Atletico Madrid a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday evening.

The home side had a positive start to the clash, making some positive forward moves from the onset.

Los Rojiblancos continued to push forward in the opening exchanges and before the visitors knew it, Saul Niguez had put the Madrid side ahead after just seventeen minutes of play with a thumping header.

The hosts continued to dominate play, but the final touch always seemed to let them down. Niguez had a lovely opportunity go a begging in the 31st minute. The visitors were doing well to keep the home attackers at bay, and the teams headed into the break with Atletico holding a slender 1-0 advantage.

The second stanza picked up where the first left off as the hosts started to regain control of the encounter as the half progressed.

Antoine Griezmann stepped up in the 60th minute to add to the hosts' tally with clinical low finish and extended their advantage to 2-0 after a lovely period of play.

Diego Simeone's charges were looking more and more threatening with each attack, and the visitors were struggling to find the answers.

Finally the Deportivo defence succumbed to pressure and let slip a third, with Angel Correa slotting in the 82nd minute strike to make it 3-0.

The score remained unchanged at the full-time whistle and the home side claimed their fourth consecutive victory.

Other result:

Iago Aspas scored the only goal of the game to hand Celta Vigo a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad at the  Estadio de Balaídos.
