An own goal from Simon Kjaer and an extra-time strike from Harry Kane sent England to their first-ever European Championship final, and their first final altogether since the 1966 World Cup.
The moment of controversy came in the first half of extra-time when the referee pointed to the penalty spot after Sterling went down in the box under a challenge from Joakim Maehle, with the video assistant referee approving the initial decision.
While there were many pundits and supporters who felt the decision was a soft one, the Manchester City star is convinced the referee made the right call.
"Yeah, I went into the box, he stuck his right leg out, it touched my leg. Clear penalty," Sterling told ITV Sport, as per the Daily Mirror.
Kane had his spot-kick saved by Denmark shot-stopper Kasper Schmeichel but was able to convert the rebound.
"If it goes in the back of the net, that's all that matters," Sterling added.
"The 'keeper saved it but the rebound, we'll take that all day."
