Arsenal's five-game winning streak across all competitions came to a halt after a goalless draw against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Result: Brighton and Hove Albion 0-0 Arsenal
Date: 02 October 2021
Venue: AMEX Stadium
The revived Gunners showed a single change from last Sunday's win over Tottenham Hotspur in Albert Sambi Lokonga for the injured Granit Xhaka.
Bukayo Saka looked to set the Gunners off to the perfect start inside a minute with a move down the right-side which led him to cut inside to get a shot away which Robert Sanchez collected.
Arsenal missed another clear chance seven minutes to the half-hour stage when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang headed a telling cross from Saka against the outside post.
Mikel Arteta's side enjoyed a strong end to the first period as Ghanaian Thomas Partey dragged a ball on the edge of the danger area well wide off target.
The Gunners saw their positive spell enter the second period too, with a certain Partey on the end of another shot outside the area from a cutback which again missed target.
Brighton struggled to go about their own following the middle phase of the second stanza, as the Gunners launched attack upon attack in pursuit of the all-important breakthrough.
Arteta added a fresh face in attack as the opener proved hard to come by late on with Aubameyang removed and Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette introduced.
The frustrations continued with under 15 minutes to go as Sanchez's outstretched leg smothered Emile Smith Rowe from a tight angle in the six-yard area.
Brighton fancied their chances as the clocked ticked away and worked Aaron Ramsdale to a few saves from balls by Marc Cucurella and Solly March, however goalless was the final score.
