Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has broken his silence on the controversial European Super League, with the Citizens one of the 12 clubs set to compete in the competition.
The Premier League leaders named themselves among the football clubs ready to feature in the Super League, a tournament reportedly created to rival the UEFA Champions League.
Jurgen Klopp became one of the first high-profile bosses to discuss the matter on Monday, with the Liverpool boss saying he understands why people are not happy with the proposal.
Guardiola has now echoed his rival's sentiments, insisting that football cannot be considered a sport if teams do not succeed on merit.
"(I was told) a few hours before the statement was released, like the rest of my colleagues. They told me we were going to release a statement. The statement is there but nobody speaks clearly with more details of what is going to be created," he said, according to City's official Twitter account.
"The presidents can speak more clearly about where football is going to go. It is uncomfortable for us because we don't have all the info. I can give you my opinion, but no more.
"I would love the president of the committee to go out around the world and explain how we got this decision.
"I support my club. I love to be part of this club. But I also have my opinion; right now it is just a statement. That's why it is uncomfortable for the managers.
"As I said, I don't have all the info. I have some info. If you ask me why these teams have been selected to play this hypothetical competition in the future… sport is not a sport when the relationship between effort and reward does not exist.
"It is not a sport if success is guaranteed or if it doesn't matter when you lose. I have said many times I want a successful Premier League, not just one team at the top. I don't know if the statement will change and four or five teams will be able to go up."
