Olympic Quarter-Final Wrap 31 July 2021

Spain 5-2 Cote d'Ivoire

Spain advanced to the semi-finals of the Olympics after thrashing Cote d'Ivoire 5-2 after extra-time on Saturday.

The Ivorians took the lead through Eric Bailly on 10 minutes before Dani Olmo levelled matters in the 30th minute.

Max Gradel looked to have won the game for Ivory Coast on 91 minutes but Rafa Mir sent the game to extra-time after equalising two minutes.

Spain then took control in extra-time after Rafa Mir added another two goals to complete his hat-trick after Mikel Oyarzabal scored a penalty.

Japan 0-0 New Zealand

Japan advanced to the semi-finals after defeating New Zealand on penalties.

The clash ended goalless after extra-time on Sunday, but the hosts managed to hold their nerve to triumph 4-3 in the shoot-out.

Brazil 1-0 Egypt

Favourites Brazil booked their spot in the semi-final with a 1-0 triumph over Egypt on Saturday afternoon.

Matheus Cunha's 37th minute strike was enough to send the defending champions to the final four.

Korea Republic 2-6 Mexico

Mexico stormed into the semi-finals after thrashing Korea Republic 6-2 in the final quarter-final tie on Saturday.

Henry Martin and Francisco Cordova bagged two goals each while Luis Romo and Eduardo Aguirre completed the rout for the Mexicans.
