Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained why he believes he has been unfair on Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman did not start in any of the Red Devils' past three matches across all competitions after struggling to hit the ground running as the 2020/21 season got underway.
Following Pogba's cameo in United's 0-0 draw with Frank Lampard's Chelsea on the weekend, Solskjaer has suggested that he has been happy with the player's influence from the bench, and admitted that perhaps it was not a good idea to start him earlier in the campaign.
"I think Paul, in all three games this week, has come on and made a very positive impact.
"Of course, he has been out for a while with the coronavirus this summer. He is getting better and better, and more and more in shape.
"Maybe I was unfair on him by starting him that early in the first few games. He is coming along, and he has done great when he has come on."
Pogba was named on the bench for United's matches against Newcastle United, Paris Saint-Germain and the Blues in recent weeks, and has featured for just 319 minutes across all competitions so far this season.
