Manchester United have announced that new signing Edinson Cavani will wear the iconic No. 7 shirt at Old Trafford, following in the footsteps of David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Confirmed: Man Utd Signed Four Players On Deadline Day
The Red Devils have confirmed their new star striker's squad number, with the Uruguayan having arrived at the club as a free agent.
The 33-year-old was announced as a new Red Devils signing on deadline day after he left Paris Saint-Germain upon the expiration of his contract in July.
United are Cavani's fourth club in Europe, following spells at Palermo, Napoli and PSG. He has scored 341 goals in 556 appearances in Europe so far, and his fine record seemingly prompted United to hand him the iconic shirt number.
Reports earlier in the transfer window suggested that Jadon Sancho would get the No. 7 shirt, but his move to Manchester never materialised as the English giants were not prepared to meet Borussia Dortmund's €120 million (R2.3 billion) asking price, according to The Athletic.
Cavani will now try to fill the boots of previous greats who wore United's famous No. 7 shirt, such as Ronaldo and Beckham – you can see some more players who have worn the iconic number for the Red Devils in the gallery above!
