As the Vodacom NXT LVL Initiative continues to search for young talent around the country, Soccer Laduma caught up with mentors Mark Fish and Shane McGregor.
We posed a question to them, asking Mark, "Imagine you are the coach of Bafana and you have one spot open at centre back – you have a young Fish and Lucas Radebe to throw into the team – who do you throw in and why?
"I would definitely say a young Lucas, because he's a natural defender and led by example," he answered.
"If it was me, I was too corruptive and I never listened to the coach, so I'd rather bring a young Lucas in," he added.
Speaking to McGregor, we asked him who he would have a better chance of scoring a goal against between Lucas Radebe and Mark Fish.
"I would choose Mark Fish, that's for sure!"
"It's no disrespect to him, and I played against him in the past, but I'll go with Lucas, and I know what Lucas can and can't do, and I know what Mark can do, for me, I would rather have played against Mark Fish," he answered.
"He was a different player altogether.
"But Lucas was a big player, strong on the ball and could read the game well, while Mark was a freer player that would go further forward and would be easier to get past," he added.
The Vodacom NXT LVL campaign is still on the search and registration is still open!
Who was your favourite defender between Mark and Lucas?
