As Maritzburg United prepare to take on Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership, in-form striker Thabiso Kutumela will be looking to edge closer to making history for the club.
Kutumela is just two goals behind the league's top scorer Bradley Grobler, the SuperSport United striker who sits on 14 goals with three matches left to play in the campaign.
Maritzburg have never had a player finishing as top scorer in the league and Kutumela has an opportunity to become the first to do so and, judging by his current form, he has a good chance of usurping Grobler on the leaderboard.
All of Kutumela's 12 goals in the league this season have been scored in 2021, the striker's good form keeping Maritzburg's chances of surviving relegation alive.
He now comes up against a City side which has the worst defensive record of the teams currently sitting in the top eight. The Citizens have conceded 36 goals in 27 matches.
In fact, City are the only club in the top eight to have conceded over 30 goals and Kutumela will no doubt be looking to take advantage and lead Maritzburg to victory to enhance their chances of avoiding finishing in the play-offs spot. The match will be played on Wednesday at Cape Town Stadium.
With the form he is in at the moment, Kutumela could attract attention from the big clubs. He's played for a big club before in Orlando Pirates and, at 27, can still get another opportunity.
He has one more year to run on his contract with the Team of Choice.
There are just 8 matchdays left until the inaugural DStv Premiership champion is crowned.
