There have been 13 different winning coaches in the MTN8, but Manqoba Mngqithi and Eric Tinkler have an opportunity to make history in the competition.
No coach has won the competition twice since MTN were announced as sponsors of the early season knockout tournament in 2008. Six foreign coaches have won the competition, while the rest have been clinched by locals.
Mngqithi, who is a co-coach with Rulani Mokwena at Mamelodi Sundowns, won the competition in 2009 in emphatic style, as his side humiliated Ajax Cape Town in the final with a 6-0 drubbing at Orlando Stadium.
Tinkler won the competition with SuperSport United in 2017, a few months after joining the club as replacement for Stuart Baxter who had left to join Bafana Bafana. SuperSport beat Cape Town City 4-2 on penalties, as Matsatsantsa claimed their first ever MTN8 title, having previously won the competition as the SAA Supa8.
With the final set to be played on October 30, both coaches will be hoping to get their hands on the trophy.
