Manchester City have reportedly made an opening offer for one of Europe's most sought-after centre-backs.
The 2019/20 Premier League runners-up are understood to be looking to strengthen all over the pitch, and are now setting their targets on a player that has been linked with rivals Manchester United over the past few seasons.
The Sun has reported that the Citizens have lodged an initial offer of £57 million (R1.3 billion), as well as bonuses, for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
Pep Guardiola has already strengthened his backline with the signing of Nathan Ake from Bournemouth for £41 million (R937 million), and is now hoping the Italian side will be open to negotiation.
Napoli have notoriously held firm on their valuation of the defender in recent seasons, and it is claimed they want £63 million (R1.4 billion) for his signature.
The 29-year-old is reportedly still on United's list of transfer targets, but the Red Devils have yet to make a bid for the Senegal star.
It is claimed that Napoli could look to cash in on their prize defender after they spent £74 million (just under R1.7 billion) on former Lille striker Victor Osimhen.
The Serie A club' president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has been quoted as saying: "Kalidou is a great person, I would be terribly sad to lose him. But there is a time for everything, even to move apart."
