One of FC Barcelona's highest-paid players is suffering because of Lionel Messi, former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has claimed.
Frenchman Antoine Griezmann is yet to find his best form since joining the Catalan giants in 2019, with many believing he does not have the best relationship with Messi.
His countryman Wenger has analysed Griezmann's situation at Barca, saying he is unable to express himself because he is being played out of position due Barca's system being focused on the Argentine.
"Not playing at his position is complicated in the long term," Wenger told beIN SPORTS.
"At the start, the guy accepts it but, if he does not meet his needs in the long term and he feels that the position does not allow him to express his qualities, he will become discouraged.
"Today, he is a player who must play in the centre because he has a great work rate, a precision in his passes.
"He can be dangerous with the last pass and by scoring goals, but there is congestion because he is in the range of play of Messi."
While Griezmann often played as second striker or centre-forward at Atletico Madrid, he has mainly been used on the wing since joining Barcelona in a €120 million (R2.3 billion) blockbuster move.
After netting 20 or more goals in his six campaigns before moving to the Blaugrana, Griezmann managed just 15 strikes in his first campaign at Barca.
He is yet to open his account in 2020/21, and was an unused substitute in his side's 5-1 thrashing of Ferencvarosi in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
