Chelsea got their Premier League season off to a positive start after claiming a 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday night.
There were Blues debuts for German duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in the attack, while former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana was handed his official Brighton debut.
While it took a while for the visitors to get going, Werner made his presence felt by winning a penalty in the 20th minute after a foul by Brighton goalkeeper Matt Ryan.
Jorginho, who had been heavily linked with an exit, took responsibility and made no mistake from 12 yards to put Frank Lampard's side in the lead after a shaky start.
Brighton nearly got themselves back on level terms after 34 minutes but Blues shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga produced a good save to keep out Alzate's powerful strike, before Lallana's evening was cut short due to an injury just before the halftime break.
The equaliser eventually arrived 10 minutes into the second half as Leandro Trossard collected a pass from Tariq Lamptey before rifling one into the far corner.
Brighton's joy was short-lived through as Reece James restored Chelsea's lead two minutes later with a superb strike from 20 yards that sailed into the top corner.
The Blues bagged their third goal after 66 minutes when Kurt Zouma found the back with a first-time volley that took a big deflection off Lewis Dunk.
Brighton still went in pursuit of another goal as the half went on but the Blues defence did well to cut out any threat in and around the 18-yard area to see out the 3-1 triumph.
