DStv Premiership Report: Swallows v Mamelodi Sundowns 29 March 2021

DStv Premiership

Result: Swallows 0-0 Mamelodi Sundowns

Date: 29 May 2021

Venue: Dobsonville Stadium

Mamelodi Sundowns maintained their unbeaten away record in the DStv Premiership after playing to a goalless draw with Swallows FC.

Sundowns made wholesale changes as they had the luxury of resting players having already secured the title. Swallows made four changes, witj Zaphaniah Mbokoma, Ruzaigh Gamildien, Kgaogelo Sekgota and Njabulo Ngcobo came into the starting line-up.

Downs had the lion's share of the possession in the opening exchanges which would be the pattern throughout the match.

Reyaad Piterse was called into action in the eighth minute, with Musa Nyatama forcing the Sundowns goalkeeper into his first save of the match with a long-range strike.

In the 16th minute Kgaogelo Sekgota went for goal from the edge of the box, but fired off target. Four minutes later, Peter Shalulile cut the ball back to Aubrey Modiba who had a go, but his shot was blocked in the box.

Clear-cut chances were hard to come by at both ends but Lebohang Maboe did win a free-kick off Gamildien before the break and Lakay whipped the set-piece for Mosa Lebusa who headed over the bar.

Here are eight players who could leave Mamelodi Sundowns:

Ten minutes after the interval Modiba unleashed a stinging shot from long range, but Sanele Tshabalala did really well to tip it over the crossbar.

In the 71st minute, Rushine de Reuck met a Modiba corner at the near post, but glanced across goal and wide.

Five minutes later Sifiso Hlanti picked out Kagiso Malinga, whose header had Pieterse beaten, but it cannoned back off the crossbar.

With five minutes left on the clock, Given Thibedi played through Fawaaz Basadien, whose left footed shot from the left side of the box was saved by Pieterse quite comfortably in the end.

And in the end, the sides would have to settle for a share of the spoils as Swallows played to their 19th draw of the season.
