Mamelodi Sundowns face the possibility of not having one of their star players available for the MTN8 final against Cape Town City on Saturday.
It was on Tuesday morning that co-coach Rulani Mokwena confirmed that talisman Gaston Sirino was battling a bout of flu as he explained why the midfielder had missed their win over AS Maniema Union on the CAF Champions League to quality for the group stages at Loftus Versfeld a few days prior.
Mokwena said he was hoping the Uruguayan would be fit again to help Downs end their drought in the elusive competition.
But it's understood Sirino is battling to shake off his illness and could be sidelined when the Brazilians take on City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
They do, however, expect to still have a strong team given their depth with Mothobi Mvala likely to make his return as he, too, had been sidelined with an injury which he picked up while on Bafana Bafana duty.
Sirino has had a rather slow start and only for the first time last week when Downs beat Golden Arrows 1-0 in the DStv Premiership to maintain their unbeaten record and remain at the summit of their log table.
It remains to be seen whether he can be part of the squad on Saturday, but indications are that this looks unlikely at this stage.
