Bayern Munich climbed into the top of the Bundesliga table after defeating Borussia Dortmund in a five-goal thriller on Saturday evening.
Bayern made two changes from midweek, with Bouna Sarr and Leon Goretzka coming to the fore while Dortmund recalled Mats Hummels, Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus.
The game was lively in the early stages as Goretzka came close to giving the Bavarians the opener in the 14th minute with a header at the back post that produced a breathtaking save from goalkeeper Roman Burki.
The visitors thought they had got the breakthrough in the 25th minute after Robert Lewandowski turned home Serge Gnabry's low cross, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Bayern coach Hans Flick was forced into a first-half change 10 minutes before the break when Joshua Kimmich picked up a knock and had to make way for 2018 World Cup winner Corentin Tolisso.
With the game seemingly headed to the break without goals, Reus broke the deadlock for Dortmund on the stroke of half-time with a neat finish at the near post from Raphael Guerreiro's cut-back.
Hans-Dieter Flick's charges then levelled matters in first-half stoppage time after David Alaba's looping strike on the edge of the box took a nasty deflection off the wall and swerved into the top corner
The Bavarians punished Dortmund for missing an early chance after the break as Lewandowski got his usual goal against his former side three minutes into the second stanza, nodding home Lucas Hernandez's cross.
Kingsley Coman was unlucky not to add a thrid goal for Bayern two minutes later with a powerful low drive from the edge of the box that came off the bottom post, with Burki well beaten.
While Lucien Favre's troops kept missing chances, second-half substitute Leroy Sane made extended the visitors' ead in the last ten minutes with a precise left-footed curler into the bottom corner after cutting inside from the right.
Erling Haaland put the game on the edge in the last seven minutes after pulling a goal back for Dortmund with strike into the gaping net after rounding goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Lewandowski thought he had buried the game for Bayern with the fourth goal in stoppage time, but the goal was disallowed for offside in the build-up, although the Bavarians held on to move two points clear at the top of the log.
