With TS Galaxy boss Tim Sukazi on the verge of completing the transaction to take over the ownership of Highlands Park's topflight status, it is believed that Makhanya is earmarked for a role in the team next season.
Galaxy finished the season in 10th place on the GladAfrica Championship and with Mabhuti Khenyeza in charge as their head coach, although recent media reports have indicated that the club is keen on reuniting with their former coach Dan Malesela, whom they parted ways within February after he led them to historical Nedbank Cup triumph last season.
Sources close to the club have confirmed that Makhanya is earmarked for the role of an assistant coach in the team.
Since retiring from playing professional football in 2007, the former defender has been working in the Wits academy and has done well alongside the likes of Dillon Sheppard and Phuphu Mohlaba.
