Esperance de Tunis has released an official statement following the clash between their supporters and Mamelodi Sundowns fans after their latest CAF Champions League encounter.

After their side was defeated 1-0 at Loftus Versfeld, chaos erupted among fans of the Tunisian outfit and the home crowd. A few of the Esperance travelling fans were injured during the skirmish, with police needing to escort the supporters of the Blood and Gold an hour after the game had concluded.

The record Ligue Professionnelle 1 champions have subsequently released a statement regarding the issue:

"The Tunisian Sports Al-Taraji assures all the Al-Tarji fans, especially the families of loved ones who have travelled to South Africa, that all our supporters are fine and have returned to Johannesburg safe and sound. The club's management has ensured the necessary transport was secured to leave the stadium and take them to the train station.

"The Tunisian sportsman Al-Taraji informs all his fans that the three loved ones who were taken to hospital are in stable condition and are receiving treatment.

"Furthermore, the Tunisian sportsman Al-Taraji confirms that they are preparing a complete file containing all the documents and evidence to support our fans who were exposed to violence at Pretoria Stadium. This will be sent to the Confederation of African Football.

"The Tunisian sportsman Al-Taraji will take all the necessary measures to defend the rights of our supporters, with all the documents confirming the organisational breaches that occurred throughout the match at the stadium. These violations contravened what was agreed upon during the previous technical meeting.

"During the second half, the isolated section of the stadium was opened, allowing the fans of the Tunisian sports club to be separated from the fans of the Sundowns team. We have all the supporting documentation to confirm this and will include it in the file we are preparing regarding everything that happened in this match.

"The Tunisian Sports Al-Taraji has great confidence in its fans, who will be present in large numbers at the return match to support the players and help them achieve the result that ensures qualification for the 'golden square' of this competition. We also have great confidence in the team to turn the situation around in the second match and win the ticket to the semi-finals.

"All thanks again to our dear supporters who were present today at Pretoria Stadium, and we thank God for everyone's safety and the absence of serious injuries among our boys.
