Bafana's Pot Could See Them End Up In A 'Group Of Death'

Bafana's Pot Could See Them End Up In A 'Group Of Death'

Pot 1 has the top ranked nations in Africa...

The 2019 African Cup of Nations draw will take place this evening, and Bafana Bafana's placement in the pots could see them end up in a 'Group of Death'.

Take a look at the pots above - Who would you want Bafana to be drawn against?

Like four years ago when South Africa last played at the AFCON in Equatorial Guinea, Bafana find themselves in Pot 3 and face the task of being drawn against two of the top 12 nations in the continent.

CAF this year used FIFA's rankings to decide which teams would go into which pots, with Egypt and Cameroon being in Pot 1 as hosts and reigning champions respectively.

Based on rankings alone, the worst group that Stuart Baxter's side can find themselves in would be alongside Senegal – Africa's highest-ranked nation – as well as DR Congo and Zimbabwe, but in terms of pedigree in the competition there is a chance that they could end up pitted against two of the tournament's most successful in Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria – who have 19 titles between them.

Here are the four pots, as confirmed by CAF:

Pot 1: Egypt (hosts), Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco.

Pot 2: DR Congo, Ghana, Mali, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Algeria.

Pot 3: South Africa, Uganda, Benin, Mauritania, Madagascar, Kenya.

Pot 4: Zimbabwe, Namibia, Guinea Bissau, Angola, Tanzania, Burundi.

Which four nations do you think would be involved in a Group of Death?
