Result: Real Madrid 2-1 Manchester United

Venue: Filip II Arena

Real Madrid have won the UEFA Super Cup for the second straight season, after goals from Casemiro and Isco secured a 2-1 win over Manchester United.

Chances were hard to come by in the opening stages, but Real went close in the 16th minute when Casemiro sent a thumping header against crossbar.

Casemiro was not to be denied in the 24th minute as the Brazilian was picked out by Dani Carvajal and fired home with a fine finish from six-yards out.

United, on the other hand, sat back for most of the opening stanza with the hope of catching Real on the break. However, they failed to utilise the ball in the final third.

Los Blancos were well in control as Isco, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos enjoyed a lot of possession as they went into the break with a deserved lead.

Jose Mourinho opted for a change at the start of the second half, as Jesse Lingard made way for Marcus Rashford.

However, it was Real who got the next goal in the 52nd minute as Isco played a neat one-two with Gareth Bale before calmly slotting into the far corner, 2-0.

United could have reduced the deficit two minutes later but Romelu Lukaku blazed over from six-yards out after Paul Pogba's initial header was saved.

Lukaku made up  for the earlier miss in the 62nd minute as the Belgian slotted home from close range, after Keylor Navas failed to hold on to Nemanja Matic's shot.

Zinedine Zidane opted for a double change in the 73rd minute as Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez replaced Bale and Isco.

Rashford had a big chance to level matters in the 81st minute but the young striker's close range effort was deflected wide by Navas.

Mourinho's men pushed for an equaliser, but they were unable to bypass while De Gea also produced a fine save to deny Asensio in the closing stages.

Nevertheless, the score remained 2-1 at the final whistle as Los Blancos claimed the Super Cup for another season.
