UEFA Champions League Report: Roma v Chelsea 31 October 2017

UEFA Champions League

Result: AS Roma 3-0 Chelsea

Date: 31 October 2017

Venue: Stadio Olimpico

A brace from Stephan El-Shaarawy and a goal by Diego Perotti guided Roma to an emphatic 3-0 victory over Chelsea.

Chelsea had a chance just seconds into the game when Perdo Rodrigues was through on goal but the pacey forward stumbled before he could get his shot away.

Roma countered well after Pedro's stumble and a long ball was laid back by Edin Dzeko and Stephan El-Shaarawy curled the ball past Thibaut Courtois to give Roma a 1-0 lead in the first minute.

Eden Hazard was a constant threat to Roma in the early stages and the Belgian international skipped past a few challenges and got his shot away which was eventually saved by Alisson Becker in the Roma goal.

A mix-up in the Chelsea defence allowed El-Shaarawy through on goal and the winger snuck in to put the past Courtois to double his side's lead in the 37th minute.

The home side took their 2-0 lead into the break and looked sharp in their approach.

Roma compounded Chelsea's woes with another goal in the 63rd minute with a Diego Perroti scorcher from distance to make it 3-0.

Alvaro Morata had a crack at goal from distance with 20 minutes remaining but the result of it summed up the forward's night which lacked real threat to Roma.

Courtois made a fantastic stop from point-blank range after a cross from Radja Nainggolan found Kostas Manolas who headed towards goal in the 88th minute.

Roma consolidated and held on to claim a crucial victory at home.
