UEFA Champions League Result: PSV 1-2 Bayern Munich Date: 1 November 2016 Venue: Philips Stadion Bayern Munich secured their place in the knockout phase of the Champions League with a 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday. The hosts wasted little time in taking the lead as they hit the front in the 14th minute. Manuel Neuer made a great save initially but Santiago Arias then bundled home the rebound from an offside position. The officials didn't see the transgression and the goal stood. Die Roten responded quickly as Xabi Alonso hammered a volley on target from 25 yards, but Remko Pasveer made a good save to keep the Spaniard out. Robert Lewandowski had a great chance for Bayern in the 30th minute. Arjen Robben whipped in a corner kick for the Pole but he turned the ball behind the post. Three minutes later Bayern had a penalty. Guardado was penalised for hand-ball in the box after a cross came in from Phillipe Lahm, and Lewandowski slotted the spot-kick. The game faded somewhat after the break as Bayern slowed down the pace, allowing PSV to defend deep. However, in the 73rd minute the German giants found their winner. David Alaba did great work down the left wing to set up Lewandowski who produced the confident finish to complete his brace and grab the three points.
