FC Barcelona will take a slight advantage into next week's second leg after claiming a 1-0 win over Manchester United in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie.
The Red Devils were without Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera, which saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hands starts to Fred and Scott McTominay, who both played in the win over Paris Saint-Germain in the last round.
After a relatively lively opening, the Catalan giants broke the deadlock after just 13 minutes as Lionel Messi did well to pick out Luis Suarez, whose header deflected in off Luke Shaw for the own goal.
The Red Devils did see a bit more of the ball as the half went on, but they were unable to carve out chances for the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.
United did manage to carve out a chance six minutes before the break as Rashford picked out Diogo Dalot at the far post, but the young full-back failed to steer his header on target.
The hosts dominated the encounter upon resumption in the second half and they could have been level after 56 minutes, but Rashford failed to direct his volley on target.
Ernesto Valverde opted for a double change in response, with Sergio Roberto and Arturo Vidal replacing Arthur and Philippe Coutinho.
The home side threw everything forward in search of an equaliser, but the defence - led by Gerard Pique- did well to thwart the United.
That proved to be the trend for the remainder of the second half as the LaLiga giants will now take a 1-0 lead in to the second leg next week Tuesday.
