Paris Saint-Germain 1-2 Manchester City

The French giants appeared destined for victory when defender and captain Marquinhos opened the scoring 15 minutes into the tie, with an accurate header into the far post after a whipped corner from Angel Di Maria.

Mauricio Pochettino's side continued to dominate most of the first half, with Guardiola's City looking a little shell-shocked going into the break, but the second half turned out to be very different for both sets of players.

A notable change was made by Guardiola in terms of his team's defensive and midfield lines, with the Premier League leaders playing much further up the pitch, seemingly to force mistakes and win the ball higher from PSG's midfielders.

The switch in tempo and attitude worked like magic for the Citizens, who pulled a goal back through a Kevin De Bruyne ball into the box. The intended cross was missed by everyone, including the French giants' defenders and goalkeeper Keylor Navas, and City were now back in the tie.

Seven minutes later, Algeria superstar Riyad Mahrez struck a free-kick past Navas, with replays showing the effort had made its way directly through the PSG wall. Suddenly, Guardiola and City looked in command in Paris, and things would only get worse for the home side.

Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Gueye was given a straight red card following a nasty mistimed tackle on Ilkay Gundogan 77 minutes into the clash, forcing PSG to play the rest of the match, against an already possession-dominant side, with 10 men.

Neymar and Mbappe were left completely thwarted in the second half, with the likes of Marco Verratti and Leandro Paredes unable to get the ball to them before being closed down or the pass being intercepted.

This is Guardiola's first-ever Champions League semi-final with the Citizens, having previously only got as far as the quarter-final stage of the European competition. While it initially appeared that the Spaniard's troops were going to fail to deliver once again on the big stage, they will now take a two away-goal advantage into the second leg.
