Report: UEFA To Kick Real Madrid Out Of Champions League

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane

UEFA could reportedly drop a bombshell on Real Madrid today and kick them out of the Champions League following the club's role in the botched European Super League.

According to Deportes Cuatro, the record UCL champions are facing serious repercussions from UEFA following president Florentino Perez's role in creating the breakaway competition.

It is claimed that European football's governing body could throw Los Blancos out of this season's Champions League and also ban them from participating in the 2021/22 tournament.

With Real set to face Chelsea in the semi-finals next week, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said on Wednesday there is a "small possibility" the tie may not go ahead.

However, he also stated that it is unlikely the UEFA board will push through with the idea of cancelling the tie due to existing broadcasting deals.

"The key is that this season has already started, so broadcasters would come at us for damages if we don't play the semi-finals," Ceferin told Slovenian TV channel 24UR.

"So, there's a relatively small possibility that this match isn't played next week. But things could be a little different in the future."

UEFA are understood to also be considering throwing Juventus out of next season's campaign as punishment for chairman Andrea Agnelli's role in the breakaway league.

With UEFA reportedly meeting on Friday, both clubs could learn their fate in the next 24 hours.

The European Super League collapsed 48 hours after an announcement on Sunday that the new competition would start with 12 founding members, namely: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur from England, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan from Italy, as well as Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona and Real from Spain.

However, nine teams have since officially dropped out of the league following massive backlash, with only Juve, Real and Barca still to withdraw from the controversial competition.

While UEFA are yet to officially comment, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Real will not be banned and their semi-final against Chelsea will go ahead.
