Manchester City News: Pep Guardiola Slammed After UEFA Champions League Final Defeat

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has come in for some heavy criticism following his team's UEFA Champions League final loss to Chelsea on the weekend.

Pep Reacts To First UCL Final Loss

The Citizens were beaten 1-0 by Thomas Tuchel's Blues in Portugal on Saturday night, with Guardiola having opted to start the match without Fernandinho nor Rodri in the holding midfield position.

This decision was met with major confusion in most football circles, especially as it was the only game all season that he did not have either one of those established players in his starting line-up.

The Spaniard has now been slammed by former Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth star Jamie O'Hara, who labelled the Premier League champions as "bottle jobs" and berated Guardiola for starting Raheem Sterling.

"I couldn't believe what I was watching. It's one of the worst performances I've seen from Manchester City in a long time. Bottle jobs. And an absolute disaster of a team selection from Pep Guardiola," he told talkSPORT.

"I cannot believe he got it so wrong in such a big moment. Chelsea were brilliant, they were solid, they were organised. They were all over Man City in the first half. They had their number.

"Guardiola got it so wrong with the team selection with no holding midfielder. If Timo Werner could shoot, it would have been 3-0 at half-time. They were all over them.

"Man City didn't really create one clear-cut chance apart from the one where Foden was in and (Antonio) Rudiger made a brilliant tackle. Reece James had Sterling in his pocket. I cannot believe Sterling even started the game with the form he's been in.

"I couldn't believe what I was watching. It was a disgrace from Pep Guardiola."

Guardiola has failed to win the Champions League since his Barcelona side beat Manchester United 3-1 at Wembley Stadium in 2011.
