It was a memorable first Champions League appearance for Grealish, who scored a goal and assisted Nathan Ake's in City's 6-3 win over RB Leipzig in their opening Group A match.
There was, however, a moment when Guardiola appeared to lose his cool with the England international, who was scolded by his manager for some defensive work he was seemingly not doing.
After the game, the Spanish tactician admitted that "fights happen", before revealing he was not happy with Grealish's lack of defensive effort.
However, the former Aston Villa captain believes Guardiola had every right to react the way he did given the impact he has had on football.
"That was just defensive work, I won't go too much into it because he might want the same tactics at the weekend," he said, according to Daily Mirror.
"That's what the manager is like, he's always wanting more defensively and offensively, and he's obviously someone that I'm going to listen to after everything he's done in the game.
"He's just giving out useful information."
