The 34-year-old scored all three goals as Juventus sensationally came back from a 2-0 first leg defeat to advance 3-2 on aggregate – overturning a two-goal first leg deficit for the first time in the club's history.
After the final whistle, Ronaldo, who has now equalled Lionel Messi's record of eight hat-tricks in the UEFA Champions League, insisted it is for games like the one on Tuesday night that the Italian giants paid €100 million (R1.62 billion) for him.
"This was why Juventus brought me here, to help do things that they have never done before," he said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
"This is the mentality you need to win in the Champions League.
"I just do my work and I'm very happy tonight, it was a magical night. Atletico are always difficult to face, but we are also strong and we proved it.
"We wanted a special night and it was just that – not only for my goals, but for the entire team. This is the right mentality to play in the Champions League, so we must be proud."
Juventus have now advanced to the quarter-finals of the competition, joining Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Ajax Amsterdam and FC Porto in the hat for the draw on Friday.
